Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin S. Freeborn is the Commander, 510th Fighter Squadron, Aviano Air Base, Italy.

Lieutenant Colonel Freeborn was commissioned in 2000 from Miami University. He earned his wings at Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training and has served in operational flying assignments in the F-16 as a weapons instructor pilot, evaluator pilot; instructed at the USAF Weapons School, and served as Director of Operations of the 510FS. Lieutenant Colonel Freeborn is a senior pilot with more than 1,500 flying hours in the T-37, T-38, and F-16, including over 150 combat hours in Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and in support of Operation OAKEN STEEL.

Prior to his current assignment, Lieutenant Colonel Freeborn studied Strategic Intelligence at the National Intelligence University in Washington, D.C., and Operational Art at the USMC School of Advanced Warfighting in Quantico, Virginia.
