Maj. Knisley is buried in the US Cemetery Lorraine, St. Avold France.
Knisley was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Knisley of Greeneville. He was elected president of his class in 1937 at Greeneville High School, chosen as the most popular boy in the class and was quarterback on coach Ty Disney's GHS football team for three years.
He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1941. He was a cheerleader and led the cheerleader squad on successive trips to the Orange, Rose, and Sugar Bowls in 1938 through 1940. He volunteered for the Army Air Force at the beginning of World War II.
